CE - The mark "CE" means that a product complies with an applicable European Directive. The CE marking is required to be displayed on regulated products placed for sale on the European market. A European Directive is a European "Law" which relates to health, safety, environment and consumer protection, much the same as the U.S. National Electrical Code and UL Standards.

To permit the use of a CE mark on a product, proof that the item meets the relevant requirements must be documented. This is achieved by a) using an external test house which evaluates the product and its documentation, or b) achieved by a company-internal self certification process.
